Chlamydia is a very common bacterial infection which is picked up by having unprotected sex. Around one in seven young people are thought to have it, and as Chlamydia infection often doesn’t give you any symptoms, it’s important to make sure that you don’t have it by taking a test, even if you feel ok. The infection can sometimes hang around in your tubes and cause damage. It can even make you infertile. Remember it only takes ONE infected partner to pass the infection on, so if you have ever had unprotected sex (sex without using a condom), then make sure you get a test. Order one online or come to any of our clinics to get a test.
Gonorrhoea
It is very easy to test for Gonorrhoea and current tests are highly sensitive. Gonorrhoea can be present in the urethra, vagina, rectum and throat and we can test from all these sites. Gonorrhoea is very infectious and can be transmitted without having full penetrative sex even if condoms are used. It can take up to 2 weeks after sexual contact for a test to pick up these infections therefore it may be necessary to repeat the tests to cover any window periods. We advise to screen regularly, particularly after any partner changes.
